India

An India holiday starts with a region, not a checklist of the whole country. Choose the heritage circuit of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, or a Kerala journey linking Kochi, hill country and backwaters. The pace and season should shape the route.

Your starting point

Two very different ways to begin

For a week away, our suggestion is to choose either a north Indian heritage circuit or a Kerala route. Combining both introduces another long transfer and changes the rhythm of the trip. The heritage circuit asks more of a group: Incredible India puts Jaipur about five hours from Delhi by road, and its monthly figures for Agra reach about 46 °C in May and June, so with older travellers or young children, aim for February–April or September–November, the months Incredible India recommends for Agra. If long road days are a concern, a Kochi and backwater stay is the gentler choice. [1] [2] Tell us whether you want monuments and markets, scenery and quieter stays, or a smaller journey within one state.

Suggested lengths are starting points for a conversation. Your final route depends on your dates, interests and availability.

Delhi, Agra and Jaipur: a heritage circuit

These three cities form the Golden Triangle. Agra’s Taj Mahal and Jaipur’s palaces give each stop a clear purpose. Build in time for the places between the headline sights; three different hotels already create several travel days. [1] [2]

Kochi and the backwaters: slower days

For a Kerala starting point, pair time in Kochi with Alappuzha or Kumarakom. Decide whether you want a boat outing or an overnight boat stay, and we’ll talk you through boarding, sleeping arrangements and the exact experience before you choose. [3]

Munnar: a separate hill-country stay

Munnar offers a cooler highland setting within Kerala. Treat it as its own stay rather than an extra stop on a busy backwater day. Tell us how much time your group is happy to spend in the vehicle on the winding roads, and we’ll pace the drive to suit. [3] [4]

When to go

There is no single season for all of India

For Kerala, the state tourism board identifies the cooler winter months as a useful window for backwaters and hill stations. March–May can be hot and humid in lower areas; the monsoons bring significant rain. Rajasthan and the Himalayas follow their own seasons, so we time each region on its own. [3] [4]

Getting around

Build a route from your departure city

Share your starting city, not just the destination name. We can then discuss whether a direct road journey, train or flight makes sense for the dates you have. For a short break, we keep the first and last days clear of complicated connections, and share realistic door-to-door timings before you approve the final route.

Make it yours

Your trip. Your kind of days.

Share your departure city, preferred region, number of nights and comfortable daily driving time. Mention any specific monument or stay that is essential.

A little clarity before you go

Questions before you plan

Can we plan a domestic trip from Bengaluru?

Yes—tell Trip Stories how many nights you have and whether you prefer to drive, take a train or fly. Starting with those limits helps us discuss a route that fits your leave dates rather than a long list of attractions.

Should we add a backwater stay and a hill station?

They offer different experiences, so allow separate nights for each if both matter to you. If the trip is short, choose your priority and keep the second place for another holiday instead of making every day a transfer.
