Monaco

See Monaco through its old town, ocean heritage and changing viewpoints. A carefully planned day can feel more complete than a quick photograph beside the harbour.

Your starting point

One full day, or an overnight for an easier pace

A dedicated day can combine Monaco-Ville with a chosen museum visit and time near the harbour. Stay overnight if an event or evening experience is the main reason for visiting. When travelling from another Riviera base in France, include the station-to-first-stop journey and a comfortable return rather than counting only the train ride.

Suggested lengths are starting points for a conversation. Your final route depends on your dates, interests and availability.

Monaco-Ville: start with the older setting

The official tourism map places the old town, palace area and Saint-Martin gardens together on the Rock. Choose a walk that allows time for the setting. We arrange any interior visits separately, as the outdoor route does not include admission to every building. [1]

Oceanographic Museum: make it the main visit

Visit Monaco’s family route identifies the Oceanographic Museum as a substantial stop. If the collections are your priority, give them an unhurried part of the day. We confirm the current exhibitions and accessibility arrangements before adding other timed activities. [2]

Harbour time: leave room simply to look

Use the official map to choose a waterside walk and a practical place to pause. The appeal can be the changing view rather than another ticketed attraction. We also look at the event calendar for your dates, as major gatherings can change the usual route. [1]

When to go

Time the visit around the programme

Choose dates around a confirmed event if that is the purpose of the stay. The Formula 1 Grand Prix, held in early June, races through the heart of the city [5], and the Oceanographic Museum closes that weekend and on Christmas Day, keeping its longest hours in July and August. [4] For a general visit, we confirm museum opening and local access for your date and keep outdoor walks flexible for the forecast.

Getting around

Plan for height as well as distance

Monaco’s official map identifies public lifts, escalators and station access points. We use them to plan a manageable route, including step-free options where needed, as two places close on a flat map can sit at different levels. [3]

A little clarity before you go

Questions before you plan

Is Monaco a flat walking day?

Monaco is small but has plenty of changes in level. We plan them with the official access map, using its public lifts and escalators. [3]

Should we stay overnight rather than visit from the Riviera?

Choose an overnight if it supports an evening or a slower museum-and-town visit. Otherwise a full day with a sensible return can work well.
