Victoria Falls

Make space to experience the falls from the Zimbabwe side, then decide how much river time belongs around them. Water levels change both the view and the kind of day you can plan.

Your starting point

Two or three nights, with an unhurried falls visit

Consider two or three nights to separate arrival, a main falls visit and a second activity or relaxed river day. Keep any activity you particularly care about away from the final few hours before a flight. If you are linking the falls with a safari, compare the total journey between stays before adding another stop.

Suggested lengths are starting points for a conversation. Your final route depends on your dates, interests and availability.

Rainforest viewpoints: take your time

Victoria Falls National Park protects the waterfall and the spray-fed rainforest beside it. Give the viewpoints a dedicated part of the day rather than squeezing them between transfers. Wear footwear suited to wet paths and keep cameras protected from spray; follow the marked paths and barriers. [1]

The Zambezi: a different perspective

The river and waterfall are connected parts of the same landscape. If you want a river outing, decide whether you are looking for scenery, wildlife watching or an active experience. We confirm the activity, meeting point and operating conditions for your day. [1]

One side first, another only if it adds value

This guide focuses on Zimbabwe. A visit across to Zambia adds border and transport planning, so we treat it as a separate option. Tell us whether another viewpoint is a priority or whether you would prefer to spend that time more slowly on this side.

When to go

More water and clearer views are different goals

ZimParks’ management plan describes flows typically peaking between March and May, with the lowest flows in October and November. High water can mean heavier spray; lower water changes the exposed rock and waterfall sections. Annual rainfall varies, so we use these as broad patterns and look at recent conditions for your dates. [2]

Getting around

Plan the arrival for the Zimbabwe side

ZimParks lists Victoria Falls International Airport as an air arrival point for the Zimbabwe side. We plan the airport, hotel and transfer together. If your route uses another country’s airport, we build in the border crossing and go through the formalities for your passport with you. [1]

Make it yours

Your trip. Your kind of days.

Tell us your dates, arrival airport and whether waterfall views, photography or river time is your main priority.

A little clarity before you go

Questions before you plan

Is there one best month for everyone?

No. A powerful curtain of water, clearer photography and particular river activities can favour different conditions. Tell us which matters most and we’ll match the season to it, then confirm water levels and the operator’s arrangements nearer the time. [2]

Do we need to include an adventure activity?

No. The main falls visit and time by the river can be the focus. If you do want one, we go through its physical requirements, age limits and weather restrictions with you before adding it to the plan.
