Fiji
Choose the Fiji stay that fits your pace before choosing how many islands to visit. A mainland base, a single island retreat and an island-hopping route each create a different holiday.

Your starting point
Five to seven nights with one or two well-chosen bases
Consider five to seven nights, either in one comfortable base or split between the main island and one island stay. Tell us how much transfer time your group enjoys, and we’ll only add a move if it is worth it. For a shorter holiday, one resort with a carefully chosen outing may leave more time to relax than several brief stays.
Suggested lengths are starting points for a conversation. Your final route depends on your dates, interests and availability.
Mainland stay: the location shapes the days
Tourism Fiji’s land-travel guide describes road travel on Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. We look at each hotel’s transfer from the arrival airport and how you will reach your planned outings. A mainland stay can avoid a boat connection, and we weigh the drive times when choosing the location. [1]
Mamanuca or Yasawa: match the island to the transfer
Tourism Fiji lists passenger-ferry connections from Port Denarau to these island groups. We match the service to your resort, including the final pickup, and plan around a late arrival or early departure so you make the most of your time at the resort. [2]
Family rhythm: the details that matter
Choose the stay around the group’s ages and daily routine. We look at room layout, meals, children’s activities and the kind of beach or pool time you want, so the stay suits your family in practice, not just on paper.
When to go
Use the island and season together
Tourism Fiji describes a wetter season from November to April and notes that the eastern parts of the larger islands are generally wetter. We use these patterns when comparing stays, keep boat-based activities flexible and plan the transfers of a split stay with the weather in mind. [3]
Getting around
Connect the flight, road transfer and boat as one plan
For an island stay, we plan the full sequence from the airport to the departure port and onward to the resort. The tourism board lists several sea-transport options with different departure points. If your flight does not fit the connection, we add a mainland overnight so the crossing stays relaxed. [2]

Questions before you plan
Should we change islands every night?
We suggest fewer moves unless island-hopping is the main purpose of the holiday. Count checkout, travel and check-in time as part of each move. A longer stay in one place leaves more freedom for an outing or an unplanned day.
Do we need a mainland night before the flight home?
It depends on your boat or air transfer and your international departure. We look at the whole connection with the operator, including a weather back-up, and add a mainland night when it makes the return more comfortable.
