Your starting point

Three or four nights beyond a shopping stop

Consider three or four nights if you want to spend time in the mountains. Use a single base, leaving one day flexible for the weather. A winter sports stay is happiest near the intended slopes and a walking holiday close to the trails, so we choose the base around your main activity.

Suggested lengths are starting points for a conversation. Your final route depends on your dates, interests and availability.

Madriu Valley: choose the actual route

Official routes in the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley vary substantially in length and difficulty. The Ràmio circuit offers a different outing from the demanding Collada de la Maiana route. We look at the ascent and surfaces as well as the distance to choose the route that suits your group. [1] [2]

A village day: leave some room between walks

Set aside time near your accommodation for a meal and a gentle look around the valley. It gives the holiday an easy day between longer walks, and your local host can suggest short walks that suit the day’s conditions.

A winter stay: choose the activity before the base

Tell us whether the priority is skiing, learning a snow sport or simply enjoying a mountain setting. We plan lessons, equipment and transport around that choice, and choose a hotel that works for skiers and non-skiers alike.

When to go

Use mountain forecasts, not just calendar seasons

We plan each mountain day around the local weather and road information that Visit Andorra links to. Snow, ice and visibility change a route, so summer walks and winter outings get their own plans. [2] [3]

Getting around

Allow for the approach from Spain or France

Andorra has no airport of its own. Visit Andorra lists scheduled international buses from Barcelona and other cities in Spain and from Toulouse in France, alongside local transport options. [3] [4] We plan the whole connection from your arrival airport to the hotel. Andorra is outside the Schengen area and is reached only through Spain or France, so a visit means leaving and re-entering Schengen. Andorra’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that where a Schengen visa is required it should be a double- or multiple-entry visa, and directs travellers to the Spanish or French embassy or consulate for their country of entry, and we go through the documents for your full journey with you as we plan. [5]

Make it yours

A little clarity before you go

Questions before you plan

Can we use any valley walk as an easy family outing?

The official route listings include both moderate and difficult walks, so we choose a named route with the elevation, terrain and return distance that suit your family. [1] [2]

Does a short visit allow a full mountain day?

Yes, when arrival and departure leave enough time. An extra night turns a short stop into a full day outdoors, with flexibility for the weather.
