Hungary
Let Budapest be the beginning rather than the whole Hungary story. Add a regional stay for quieter streets, a different landscape or time built around a particular interest.

Your starting point
Six or seven nights with one regional contrast
Consider several nights in Budapest followed by Eger or a Balaton stay, depending on the holiday you want. A city-and-culture route differs from a lakeside break. Choose the second stage first, and we’ll match the connections and accommodation to it.
Suggested lengths are starting points for a conversation. Your final route depends on your dates, interests and availability.
Budapest: choose a cultural focus each day
Hungary’s tourism portal brings together the city’s collections, cafés and bath traditions. Select one substantial visit, then leave room for a neighbourhood walk and a meal. Keep both sides of the river in mind when grouping activities, so the day is not spent repeatedly retracing the same journey. [1]
Eger: combine the town with a chosen local interest
The official Eger guide highlights the castle, historic baths and surrounding valleys. Decide which interests you most and allow an overnight stay if you want a slower visit. If wine is part of the plan, we arrange transport and include good alternatives for non-drinkers. [2]
Balaton: choose the place around the experience
The national tourism board presents Balaton as a distinct region. We compare a lakeside stay with a town or countryside base and match the services to your dates, so the hotel suits walking, swimming or a quieter retreat. [1]
When to go
Plan the experience, not just the season
Budapest works across the year: the outdoor pools at Széchenyi stay open in winter [3], and the hottest spell usually falls from late July into early August. [4] On Lake Balaton, boats run from spring to late autumn, with the fullest timetable from early July to late August. [5] [6] We confirm bath access rules, opening times and the calendar for lakeside activities, and choose a thermal visit that suits each traveller’s comfort. An indoor cultural option stays ready if an outdoor day becomes less appealing.
Getting around
Link the regional stay to Budapest
We plan the full journey from Budapest, including the station-to-hotel transfer. For countryside visits, we choose between local transport and an arranged pickup, and set a confirmed return for any late tasting or evening event.

Questions before you plan
Is every thermal bath suitable for children?
Age rules and pool access differ between baths, so we confirm the arrangements for your group before including one.
Can Eger be more than a wine outing?
Yes. Its castle, historic town and bath heritage provide other reasons to visit. Build the day around the interests of everyone travelling. [2]
