Czech Republic
Give Prague time, then choose one contrasting Czech stay. South Bohemian streets and Brno’s city life lead to different journeys, each worth planning at its own pace.

Your starting point
Six to eight nights with one second base
Consider Prague for several nights, then choose Český Krumlov for a smaller historic-town stay or Brno for another urban perspective. Both can belong in a longer trip, but the journey between them deserves its own time. Avoid adding a new hotel simply because a place appears close on a national map.
Suggested lengths are starting points for a conversation. Your final route depends on your dates, interests and availability.
Prague: organise sightseeing by neighbourhood
Choose the collection, historic visit or performance that matters most, then build the surrounding walk in the same area. Leave a separate period for the city without tickets or a timetable. A short route with time to stop gives more than repeatedly crossing the city between appointments. Prague Castle sits on a hill: the city’s tourism office describes a step-free route from the Pražský hrad tram stop, but its surfaces are mostly cobblestones with slopes of up to 15%. [5]
Český Krumlov: let the overnight change the pace
VisitCzechia’s rail itinerary describes the town and its castle beside the Vltava. Consider staying overnight if you want to enjoy the streets beyond a brief excursion. We plan the last stretch from the arrival point to the hotel, so the old town starts as soon as you arrive. [1] The castle administration notes that the castle area is hard to access for visitors with limited mobility, with barrier-free entrances only in the Castle Gardens. [6]
Brno: make it a deliberate city choice
Brno appears as a separate stage in the official rail route. Add it for the interests you want to explore there, rather than using it only to make a map look complete. We arrange any architectural tour or museum booking first, then set the length of the stay around it. [1]
When to go
Interiors keep their own seasons
A town can be enjoyable to walk around while a particular castle interior follows a seasonal programme: in Český Krumlov, guided tours of the castle apartments run from April to October, while the castle museum and tower stay open into December. [2] [3] Prague’s Christmas markets run from late November into early January and draw very large crowds. [4] We confirm the interior visits for your dates and leave the walking flexible for the weather.
Getting around
Compare the whole Prague–second-base journey
Official rail guidance shows that Brno–Český Krumlov can involve a substantial journey and a change. We choose between the current train and bus options for your dates, and arrange luggage storage if you want to stop between overnight bases. [1]

Questions before you plan
Can Český Krumlov and Brno both be easy Prague day trips?
Each works differently as a day trip. We look at how much time remains after the full return journey and suggest a day trip or an overnight to match.
Should we change hotels for every Czech town?
Not necessarily. Keep a base when it supports comfortable excursions, and move when an overnight adds meaningful time or avoids a repeated long journey.
